I have worked as a Graphic Designer and Art Director since 1998. I design covers for books and magazines. I was the founding Art Director at The Walrus. and Creative Lead for the launch of Sportsnet Magazine.  I work with talented photographers and illustrators from around the world. All my work is the result of collaborations between authors, editors, artists and type designers and as such is the product of multiple talents.

I studied with Jerzy Kolacz, the great Polish-Canadian illustrator and poster designer. My first published illustration was for Nicholas Blechman at the New York Times.  Most of this work was published on the letters page, or OP-ED page of the New York Times. None of this work would be possible without great writing and great Art Directors.

I love charts, maps, letters and the illustrator as reporter. Most of the these for Eye Magazine and The New York Times.

Why yes, I will draw a cell phone, if the price is right. 

I did a lot of these for Ivor Tossell's no defunct tech column in the Globe.

I seem to draw a lot of hearts.  

 I have written 3 books published in 10 languages around the world. If We Ever Break Up This is My Book (Simon & Shuster) was packaged with a Jennifer Anniston DVD called the Break Up. My second book, iGeneration (Penguin) was about Milenial Angst and written and drawn by me, but not my idea. Festus (J&L) is now available through Moto Distribution and is a series of painting I made while I was on my way up to the Yukon for an artist residency and thinking about prospectors and Bruce Lee.  

I have been tweeting as the Statue of Al Purdy for about 2 years now. Al Purdy was a Canadian Poet known for his wild grape wine and 39 books of Poetry .  His statue stands in Queen's Park and he gets lonely. Please follow.

I have carried a sketchbook with me since I was 18 and hospitalized after being punched in the stomach by the Captain of my university football team on the opening night of my theatrical debut as Billy Name, in a play about Andy Warhol's factory.
